Tony joined Zappos.com in 2000, and under his leadership, Zappos has grown
gross merchandise sales from $1.6M in 2000 to $370M in 2005. Tony focuses
on continuing to grow the business at a rapid pace while maintaining the
culture and feel of a small company. Prior to joining Zappos, Tony
co-founded Venture Frogs with Alfred Lin. Venture Frogs is an incubator
and investment firm that invested in Internet startups, including Ask
Jeeves (acquired by IAC/InterActiveCorp IACI), MongoMusic (acquired by
Microsoft, MSFT), MyAble (acquired by Openwave Systems, OPWV), Tellme
Networks, and of course, Zappos.com. Prior to Venture Frogs, Tony
co-founded and grew LinkExchange from a side business from his apartment
to a cooperative advertising network that reached over half of Internet
enabled households, according to Media Metrix. LinkExchange was
successfully sold to Microsoft for $265M in 1998. Tony also served on a
small tour of duty at Oracle as a software engineer before delving into
his entrepreneurial destiny. Tony graduated from Harvard University with a
BA in Computer Science.
Alfred Lin![]()
Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chairman & Director
Alfred joined Zappos.com in 2005 and is responsible for all financial,
administrative and warehouse operations. Alfred focuses on bringing focus,
strategy and financial discipline in order to grow the business
efficiently and profitably. Prior to joining Zappos, Alfred served as VP
of Finance and Business Development at Tellme Networks, helping grow that
business from no revenue to over $120M in recurring revenue per year, 30%
cash margins and a $0.5B estimated contracted revenue backlog. Prior to
joining Tellme Networks, Alfred co-founded Venture Frogs with Tony Hsieh.
Venture Frogs is an incubator and investment firm that invested in
Internet startups, including Ask Jeeves (acquired by IAC/InterActiveCorp,
IACI), MongoMusic (acquired by Microsoft, MSFT), MyAble (acquired by
Openwave Systems, OPWV), Tellme Networks, and of course, Zappos.com. Prior
to Venture Frogs, Alfred served as VP of Finance and Administration at
LinkExchange, where he managed the sale of the Company to Microsoft for
$265M and his tight financial management allowed the company to raise very
little equity and the founders and employees to keep 80% of the value
created. Alfred graduated from Stanford University with a M.S. in
Statistics and from Harvard University with a B.A. in Applied Mathematics.
Fred Mossler![]()
Senior Vice President of Merchandising
Fred joined Zappos.com in 1999 and is responsible for all merchandising
operations dividing his time between scouting trade shows, signing up new
shoe manufacturers, and developing the next generation of world-class
merchants by teaching them to listen to and anticipate customer needs and
desires and bring exciting product alternatives to their attention. Prior
to Zappos, Fred spent over 8 years gaining increasing responsibility
through sales, management and buying at Nordstrom, serving most recently
as Regional Buyer. At Nordstroms, Fred launched and developed the Couture
category and shifted the buying process from single store buying to
regional buying, consolidating ideas, trends, decisions and leveraging
economies of scale. Fred graduated from Southern Oregon University with a
B.S. in Business.
Lisa Vagge![]()
Vice President of Marketing
Lisa joined Zappos.com in 2000. She says that the marketing philosophy at
Zappos is simple: "We firmly believe that the best form of marketing is
word of mouth. Our job is to make sure that all of our advertising conveys
one simple message: that Zappos is going to provide each and every
customer with the best possible online shopping experience." The marketing
team strives to develop campaigns that demonstrate a robust return on
investment by reaching the brand conscious customers who will respond to
the unparalleled selection and service at Zappos.com. Lisa got her start
in Internet marketing at LinkExchange, a start-up that provided
advertising services to small businesses. After LinkExchange was purchased
by Microsoft in 1998, Vagge continued work with company, helping to
service and develop the ListBot product, an e-mail management service with
over 20 million subscribers. Lisa graduated from Harvard with a B.A. in
Psychology.
